During this approximately 45 minute Video Presentation, Dr. “Arizona” demonstrates and explains the basic principles involved in the traditional craft of flintknapping.   Beginning with a description of the physics behind striking strategies and the tools involved in the craft, she quickly moves on to actually demonstrate these concepts in action.   The idea behind this video grew out of the demonstrations Dr. “Arizona” does for archaeology classes and at other such educational venues.   The presentation shows principally the techniques that she uses to produce the teaching kits and comparative collections available through Phoenix Obsidian Designs.   In the course of this video, Dr. “Arizona” knaps a completed projectile point while explaining the principles behind the percussion and pressure flaking techniques demonstrated.   This Presentation has been tailored specifically for beginning students in archaeology but has much to offer for the advanced student as well.   It is not specifically designed as a primer for the beginning flintknapper but can be used as such along with the basic flintknapping kits available from Phoenix Obsidian Designs.   (Special Combined Offers below).   A Curriculum Packet is also offered along with the DVD in two teaching levels - either College Level or 4th Grade.   This Packet has the text of many of the other educational tools offered elsewhere on this website.
